The Miracle Mile: Going Twain with Him
Our theme for the year 2010 is "The Miracle Mile," inspired by Matthew 5:41.
In the Roman Empire at the time of the New Testament, any Roman on government business could compel a Jew to take his burden for the length of a single mile. In Matthew 5:41, Jesus states "... whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain." In other words, even though the first mile is unfair, volunteer to go with that person a second mile.
The first mile is traversed out of duty. Bearing the burden for that mile proves nothing.
The second mile is traversed out of devotion. It is the "miracle mile." When one gives of oneself beyond what is required, they are in a position to see God bless in their life. It is in the second mile that the miracles of God are revealed.
